Step 1: Conceptualize and Design Your Figure

Whether you choose to finalize your design by drawing by hand or using a computer, spend time developing your idea. Think about the personality of the character. How does it move? What features does it have?

Step 2: Create the Prototype

The prototype is the first physical manifestation of your idea.

You can use 3D print to sculpt your figure. Make sure you accurately capture all of the details because these will transfer to your resin duplicates.

Simplify the prototype’s complexity to reduce the need for extensive post-processing. Ensure the prototype accurately represents the final product to avoid costly adjustments later. Precision at this stage sets the foundation for quality production.

Step 3: Make a Silicone Mold

A high-quality mold is essential for successful casting.

Encase your prototype in silicone mold material to create a negative mold. This mold will capture every detail of your prototype.

Select a silicone that matches your design’s complexity—certain types are better for advanced patterns. Follow package instructions for proper use to prevent air bubbles and ensure a durable design. Proper mold creation is essential for precise duplication of your figure.

Step 4: Cast the Resin Figure

Casting brings your character to life.

Mix the resin according to the instructions, pour it into the silicone mold, and allow it to cure fully.

Choose the right type of resin — epoxy, polyurethane, or polyester — depending on your needs. Add dye or pigment if you want a colored figure. Resin releases toxic fumes so, work in a ventilated area and wear a respirator and protective gloves.

Step 5: Demold and Finish

Carefully remove your figure from the mold and prepare it for finishing touches.

Trim any excess resin, sand down imperfections, and smooth the surface to get it ready for painting.

Use fine-grit sandpaper and detail tools. Be patient because this process improves the quality of the figure. Proper finishing is the foundation of a professional result.

Step 6: Paint and Detail Your Figure

Painting transforms your figure into a vibrant masterpiece.

Choose suitable paints—acrylics work well—and apply base coats, shadows, and highlights to bring depth and realism.

Invest in quality brushes of different sizes for various details. Seal your work with a clear varnish to protect the paint and add a finished look. Take your time to experiment with the colors and make it yours!
